Vergani Sultano Gran Nocciolato brings you an exquisite bar of Italian milk chocolate gianduia, brimming with whole hazelnuts. Crafted in Cremona by artisans who have honoured traditional methods of creating torrone and sweets since 1881, this treat makes a classic Italian addition to Christmas celebrations.
Legend has it that torrone was first made in 1441 for the wedding of Francesco Sforza and Bianca Maria Visconti. The bridal couple was presented with a honey, almond, and egg white confection shaped like the “Torrazzo” tower of Cremona’s cathedral, inspiring the name "Torrone" for Italian nougat.
By the 19th century, Cremona had become a hub for handmade nougat, and it was here that Secondo Vergani began his work in the Porta Venezia area. In 1881, he acquired the shop where he worked, dedicating his efforts to nougat-making and thus establishing the Vergani brand.
